Housing Discrimination Testers NEEDED

The Housing Rights Center (HRC) is the largest fair housing agency in California. HRC is currently recruiting testers to investigate housing discrimination. Following a training* on Fair Housing laws and test protocol, testers will help uncover differential treatment by inquiring about rental listings and then, reporting their experiences. Testers will receive a stipend for each complete test; stipend amount for tests varies from $30 (telephone) to $40 (virtual). Please note that under the current COVID-19 restrictions, we anticipate virtual and phone-based tests to be the norm.

Who are we looking for:

  • Reliable individuals with a flexible schedule, good observational skills and who can write clear, objective reports;
  • Individuals who want to get involved in fair housing work.

This is a unique opportunity and you will learn how Federal/state laws are applied to Los Angeles county-wide housing discrimination. If you are interested in the tester position, please contact Hisano Hamada (she/her/hers) at hhamada@housingrightscenter.org. Thank you for your time and hope to hear from many of you soon.

*All prospective testers are required to attend a 3-hour virtual training; trainings are generally held during evening hours (from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.).
