Want to see a non-profit serving its community get better, and grow in its ability to serve in an impoverished neighborhood?
How are you at writing copy, or do you want to get better? Or taking photos and videos to support communications?
How are you at getting attention (in a good way) from posts on Facebook, or Instagram, or Twitter, or TikTok? Are you willing to learn (some of it on your own, some with us), but you need a source of inspiration?
We need more Hands and Heads and Hearts to help get out the word -
Central is serving Grace, Hope and Love at the intersection of Poverty and Homelessness,
and we're doing it with weekly food distribution
a community garden that serves about 30 households
kids programs for exercise, fun and building character and faith
and we're expecting to bring back English classes and a women's empowerment group this fall.
Plus, we expect to be launching a Spiritual Experience Laboratory for young adults this fall, involving talents, inspiring speakers, and a chance to draw closer to The Divine.
So, if you want more experience for your resume, or you want a chance to learn some skills or improve the ones you have, join our TEAM.
Many of our meetings can be done virtually via Zoom, but we will give you a tour of our site so you can catch the vision with us to convey in what you write and film.

Description
CENTRAL: A small, energetic community working in English + bilingually to empower our neighbors in Van Nuys through love and grace to be who God has made them to be.
Our vision: We want to be people who accept and live in God's grace, who follow Jesus Christ, and who serve others.
January 1929 Central was a mission outreach & became a vital part of serving a wide range of needs through the depression and post-war Van Nuys. It flourished in the 50's-70's but lost its connection with mission, so dwindled.
NOW, for 15 years, hosted homeless services agencies & opened worship to marginalized folk, experiencing loneliness, disconnectedness, & personal trauma.
TODAY: Core of folks serve both persons experiencing poverty & hunger among the housed neighbors + persons experiencing homelessness.

* Summer kids programs (camp onsite July 2020; Camp opportunities @ mountains late-July 2020)

- We want a sample (links if possible) of what you've been doing, and if you don't have a portfolio yet, write about or photo/film something you're passionate about and submit it. All ages welcome for this work!
