Family Housing Network (FHN) Day Center Assistant
Family Housing Network (FHN) serves low-income families in Pierce County and military veteran households in King, Pierce, Thurston, Snohomish, Kitsap, Mason, Grays Harbor, Lewis, Cowlitz, Pacific or Wahkiakum counties.
The FHN Day Center in Tacoma is a drop-in site that serves families who are experiencing homelessness. The Day Center is open 7 days a week, providing computer access, showers, laundry facilities, meals, diapers, and open use of the community kitchen.
Volunteers are needed on Mondays and Fridays to help assist families visiting the day center.
Volunteers work with staff and "Guests". Volunteers help families schedule shower times, help manage the laundry schedule, pack diaper kits and help staff maintain a small "library" of children's books. Shift times are flexible but help is needed from 10 am to 2 pm and/or from 2pm to 5 pm.
Ideal volunteer candidates are people who are:
- Are great with kids and families
- Leave judgement at the door
- Help foster a warm and welcoming environment
- Understand how to build relationships and make people feel comfortable
- Care about community
- Are flexible when needed
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for a volunteer registration form.
All volunteers need to be fully vetted through CCS Volunteer Services before they can start volunteering. This includes a background check, reference checks and an orientation (usually at FHN). Any volunteer serving onsite would need to provide proof of vaccination (Covid-19) and be fully vaccinated before they can start volunteering. All required PPE is provided for volunteers.
About Volunteer Chore Services, Catholic Community Services SW
1323 S. Yakima Ave, Tacoma, WA 98405, US
At Catholic Community Services we believe â ¦ â ¦ every child should grow up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment. â ¦ the elderly should be able to live with security and dignity. â ¦healthy family life should be affirmed and supported in our communities. â ¦ in compassion, love and respect for all people, especially the poor and most vulnerable. â ¦ in joining with others to change systems that oppress, discriminate or otherwise cause human suffering. â ¦ employees and volunteers should work in an environment that fosters respect, teamwork and excellence. â ¦ in all of these things for all people, whatever their color, whatever language they speak or however they worship.
Volunteer Chore serves low-income adults (anyone 18 years old or older) who have temporary or permanent functional disabilities, including those associated with aging. The people we serve canâ t afford to purchase the kinds of service we provide, donâ t qualify for assistance from other sources and donâ t have family or friends available to help them. Service is provided on an as-volunteers-are-available basis. There are never any fees for the services provided.
