The Role

We’re looking for a volunteer graphic designer who can dazzle students, volunteers and donors with beautiful, creative ideas. You’ll apply your visual creativity to everything from website graphics to social media to email campaigns and print. Not only will you be able to hone your design chops through hands-on experience, but you’ll also create real-world work to beef up your portfolio-all while making a difference for an important cause. The best part? The position is remote, and attending status calls in sweatpants is highly encouraged.

Responsibilities:

- Design killer key visuals to promote events and volunteer/student recruitment

- Collaborate with the MarCom team to discuss project details and objectives

- Provide a critical eye to designs and proof projects

- Brainstorm with other teams

- Be open to the iterative process and engaging in feedback

Requirements:

- Experience in graphic design and a link to your portfolio in your resume

- Comfortable using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign

- Have a passion for effective design and helping first generation college bound students achieve their dreams

- Must have access to your own laptop with a copy of Adobe CS/CC

Hours:

- 1 to 3 hours per week for 1-2 months per project.

Minds Matter of Chicago (MMC) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Our mission is to connect driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world.

Description

Established in 2006, MMC is a fully free afterschool program MMC equips youth in grades 10-12 with the academic and social-emotional foundation to access, persist in, and successfully graduate from a four-year college.

Now in its 17th year, Minds Matter Chicago (MMC) promotes equity in college access and opportunity,mentoring diverse, low-income students in grades 10-12 and positioning them for greater postsecondary success.

MMC stewards academically committed, ambitious young people toward admission and enrollment at selective four-year institutions, providing supplemental instruction in critical thinking and writing, standardized test preparation, assistance with college and scholarship application processes, and access to high-quality summer learning experiences. To date, 100% of participating students enter college immediately post-high school, and 73% of program alumni have earned their bachelor’s degree.

MMC is an intensive program for both mentees and mentors, all of whom commit to meeting a minimum of two hours each week, 30 weeks per year, for a period of three years. This 2023-2024 academic year, MMC is serving 72 students, nearly 100% qualify forfree/reduced-price lunch, 99% are first-generation college aspirants, and 82% speak a language.
