NEW SHIFT for those who have school or work:
Join us at 1:30 - 1:45 pm to help finish strong with our Food Distribution, then stay until about 5 pm to help us clean up and re-set for the following Monday's distribution.
This new "Cross-Over Shift" allows a couple of our older volunteers to get us going, then take a break for some other commitments or for health constraints. And it also allows us to bring fresh energy in at the time of the distribution when our FULL shift is starting to get tired. YOU ARE IMPORTANT for our overall energy and ability to serve more households.
NOTE: 2nd/4th Mondays SHIFT OPTIONS:
10:30-4 pm - FULL packing groceries and distribution
1:30 or before 2 pm through 5 pm - packing groceries, distribution and Clean-Up
2:45 - 5 pm - Clean Up
NOTE: 1st & 3rd Mondays SHIFT OPTIONS:

On 1st, 3rd and when it happens 5th Mondays - we serve 260 - 310 households on these weeks, up to 1250 people
WE Work inside our Hall at 6' separations to bag food - including fresh fruits/vegetables, dried goods like rice, beans, peas, frozen items like meat or iced treats, and canned goods -
into bags for clients, where we use hand sanitizer first then wearing mask and gloves for the entire process. We will sanitize tables coming off the truck as we open them up, to limit cross-contaminization.

We social-distance ourselves,
packing the bags with spacing between each volunteer around the tables as we pack,
and no more than 3 people will actually pass bags into carts, strollers, etc. to clients. (i.e. only these 3 will have any client contact).
For DISTRIBUTION, We work with air ventilation, often outside and inside.
Second and Fourth Mondays - we serve 350 - 420 households on these weeks - up to 1750 people
we use hand sanitizer first then wearing mask and gloves for the entire process. We unload the Mobile Food Pantry truck of foods - and open the packaging, all wearing gloves. Most items are pre-package during this COVID-19 crisis, so we simply assemble bags and boxes and get them onto the table for pick-up by participants.

CENTRAL: A small, energetic community working in English + bilingually to empower our neighbors in Van Nuys through love and grace to be who God has made them to be.
Our vision: We want to be people who accept and live in God's grace, who follow Jesus Christ, and who serve others.
January 1929 Central was a mission outreach & became a vital part of serving a wide range of needs through the depression and post-war Van Nuys. It flourished in the 50's-70's but lost its connection with mission, so dwindled.
NOW, for 15 years, hosted homeless services agencies & opened worship to marginalized folk, experiencing loneliness, disconnectedness, & personal trauma.
TODAY: Core of folks serve both persons experiencing poverty & hunger among the housed neighbors + persons experiencing homelessness.

- 11:15 am orientation through clean-up, 3:30 or 4 pm, depending on speed of line until all food available is distributed.
- Must be able to stand for the time of the program, about 5 hours; canopies available for heat outside during distribution, with seats for rest breaks.
