  • 2 people are interested

In according to our fall tutoring classes free for BEA students, a maximum of 19 Virtual Classroom Supervisors are needed, starting from Oct 4 Monday tentatively. Please apply for becoming a BEA volunteer first.

  • Seniority requirements: Supervisors are no junior to Class Instructors. In most cases, Supervisors are in Grade 11 or 12.
  • Linguistic requirements: The Supervisors are fluent in the class-instructing language (and the language taught). For example, if you are interested at supervising a class learning French instructed in English, you, as a Supervisor, should be fluent in both French and English. If you are interested at supervising a Math class instructed in English, being fluent in English is good enough for the Supervisor's role.
What Does a Classroom Supervisor Do? As a general introduction, before the class starts, the Supervisor checks the Tutor and Student into the classroom, and advises when to start. In the 3-person classroom, the Supervisor will monitor the classroom, being independent from either the Tutor or the Student, to ensure everything is alright, and determine if there is inappropriate behavior/language used in the classroom. If anything really bad happens, the Supervise needs to intervene timely - it's the Supervisor's decision if an intervention is necessary. If yes, action it. Sometimes, Supervisors provide academic support to the tutor who gets stuck with a hard concept/word/question to explain. Close to the end of the class, the Supervisor reminds the class to end in like 3 or 2 minutes. After the class, the Supervisor will finish a short report to the Academy Administration on a formatted Google Form, to document down what happened in the class. Supervisors also confirm no abnormality observed, or otherwise report in detail about the abnormality witnessed and actions taken. In this report, the Supervisors record when the tutor checks in and when the class ends. These timestamps will become Tutor's volunteer time APPROVED by the Supervisors. So supervisors are supposed to arrive before the tutor, 5 minutes before the class starts, unless there is a back-to-back class before the class you supervise. And the Supervisor should be someone others can trust and look up to.

Class Schedule
Subject to which class you are going to supervise. Usually it's after school time on weekly days in Oct, Nov or early December.

Volunteering Hour Committed
Half an hour for each class. These classes recur typically on weekly basis during this fall.

As a supervisor, you must be fluent speakers in both languages taught and instructed in, if they are different.
You should be senior enough to supervise these classes as above mentioned.

If you are new to the BEA community as a high school student volunteer, please apply from the "Volunteers" Page of our website:
