Assistants in our Cat Habitat will help clean and socialize cats and kittens. Volunteers will be expected to become familiar with cat behavior and body language, and will be expected to clean litter boxes, kennels, bedding, and food dishes during most volunteer shifts. Assistants will also help socialize cats and kittens to ready them for adoption into their forever homes by playing with them and helping the cats become comfortable around people. Cat care assistants will help implement a specially designed enrichment program for all cats in our cat habitat.

To become a cat care volunteer, you MUST FILL OUT A NEW VOLUNTEER APPLICATION, which can be found at this link: https://form.jotform.com/81194451885162
You must also attend a new volunteer orientation. Orientations are held monthly and you will be able to sign up for orientation once you have submitted your volunteer application.

Mission Statement

To save the lives of animals that have been injured, abused, and neglected To prevent animal cruelty To enrich the human experience through animal companionship The Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County is a nonprofit organization, funded entirely by donations from individuals and organizations.

Description

Since 1933, the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County has been providing shelter, food and medical care for thousands of injured, neglected and abused animals. And for just as long, people like you have kept us going. Thousands of animals are neglected or abused in Memphis and Shelby County each year. Hungry, scared and injured, these animals face a bleak future. That’s where we come in. We are the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County.

With support from animal lovers like you, we are able to help prevent and stop animal abuse as well as help injured animals in Memphis and Shelby County. We are able to provide animals with a safe place to recover, nutritious food and outstanding veterinary care. On average, we provide sanctuary to over 100 animals at our facility at any given time, with dozens more placed with foster families until they are ready to be adopted. And we are dedicated to giving these animals a brighter future.

An important part of our work is giving these animals the emotional support, training and socialization abilities that will allow them to be adopted into new and loving homes and long-lasting relationships.

We have been celebrating animals and confronting cruelty since our founding in 1933. From then until today, our funding comes exclusively from private donations from animal lovers like you.
