Sign up for shifts at tiny.cc/sjec
We prepare and share bags of food (pantry staples + fresh produce) and diapers with low-income seniors, families, and immunocompromised East Austin neighbors. All volunteer activities are conducted according to recommended social distancing protocols, including the use of masks and gloves (provided upon request).
Please note some of our shifts are outdoors. Occasionally, photos of volunteers in action may be used in Welcome Table media; you can opt out by notifying our Volunteer Coordinator. Please contact volunteer@welcometableaustin.org with any questions.

Mission Statement

Welcome Table, Inc. provides assistance to families in east Austin to improve their lives through better nutrition, better health care, healthier lifestyles, spiritual growth, and cultural diversity activities.

Description

Welcome Table, Inc., under the auspices of Proyecto Santiago, concerns itself with issues in the Hispanic, African-American, and minority neighborhoods. Its outreach effort includes:

  1. Providing student and teach assistance at Norma Elementary ti improve student perfromance and create community around the school (includes reading with students, music for kids, mentoring, teacher appreciation events, and other projects)
  2. Organizing direct services for the community (such as a wills clinic by UT Law students, as they have done during spring break in south Texas).
  3. Discussing and presenting organizational skills to address community problems (such as coordinating and leading a presentation to the school board, city council, or appropriate agency). Leadership for such occasions is on part of, and by, community members. The emphasis is on community empowerment.
