Why foster?
City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue (CDCK) was formed in 2011 to save adoptable pets in overcrowded and high-kill shelters where resources are severely limited. Many of these dogs are days or even hours from being euthanized when CDCK steps in and offers them a lifeline.

Unlike a shelter facility, our rescue relies on foster homes to care for our dogs until they are adopted. By finding these dogs permanent and loving homes in the DC area, we enrich both canine and human lives. Foster parents help us learn more about a cat or dog's personality, temperament, and training level so that we can match them with the right forever home. We truly wouldn't be able to save these lives without our foster families!

Commitment
We request that you commit to a minimum of two weeks but prefer if you can foster until adoption. This time period varies but averages about two months.

What Does a Foster Do?
As a foster parent, you provide a home, food, bed and TLC. We ask that you bring your foster dog to at least two adoption events per month. We also host cat adoption events from time to time. City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue pays for all pre-approved vetting during the foster period and provides basic supplies (including a collar, harness, leash and crate for dogs). Your foster dog or kitty provides lots of love, tail wags, snuggles, and kisses!

About City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue

Location:

1812 1/2 11th St NW, Washington, DC 20001, US

Mission Statement

City Dogs & City Kitties Rescue (CDCK) rescues adoptable animals in overcrowded, under-resourced, rural kill shelters. We offer a lifeline to as many of these wonderful animals as possible. Many of the cats and dogs that CDCK rescues are just days -- and sometimes hours -- away from being euthanized for no reason other than lack of space. By finding these animals permanent and loving homes in the DC metropolitan area, we enrich the lives of both humans and animals.

Description

VISION CDCK envisions a world where all dogs and cats live in forever and loving homes free from neglect, abuse, and abandonment.

VALUES

  • A passionate commitment to rescuing homeless dogs and cats and placing them in loving, forever homes where both the pets and adopters will thrive.
  • The importance of ending dog and cat overpopulation, and the right of animals to be free from cruelty, neglect, and abuse.
  • The ability to provide high-quality medical care to rescued dogs and cats in a manner that still allows us to be good stewards of our precious resources.
  • Dedication to building a strong foster and alumni network to support our dedicated volunteers and adopters.
  • A desire to create cooperative relationships with other community organizations in order to further our mission
  • A recognition that volunteers are the very heart of our organization. We value the time and energy that each volunteer gives to CDCK and to the animals in our care, and we hope to cultivate their creativity and enthusiasm to further our mission.
