Bird/Wildlife Transport Volunteer - Franklin/Williamson County

Save to Favorites

Tennessee Bird Brigade is currently recruiting volunteers in Franklin and Williamson County to create a wildlife transportation network. Volunteers will transport injured, ill, and orphaned birds and other wildlife throughout Tennessee. Most common transports are to Walden's Puddle in Joelton (about 50 minute from Franklin) and Ziggy's Tree in Tullahoma (1.5 hours from Franklin).

Typically, the transports involve picking up injured or orphaned birds and transporting them to the nearest permitted songbird rehabilitator. Sometimes a transport may require capturing/containing a bird or baby bird. We do not expect anyone to do anything that they are not comfortable with and risk injuries. Some transports may involve transporting wildlife from one rehabilitator to another and you would simply be their Uber driver! This is a volunteer position and we do no reimburse for gas.

You may be sent requests weekly, monthly, or every 6 months depending on the need in your area. Wildlife emergencies are not that predictable. But we do take most of our requests during the months of March through October. Most of the transports are 50-90 minutes depending on where the animal is located in relation to the rehabber. We will not transport an animal until we have received confirmation from a rehabilitator that they are able to take it.

We will post transport requests via a private Facebook group and email for those who do not have Facebook.

Mission Statement

Tennessee Bird Brigade is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to sharing information and resources in an effort to create advocacy for backyard birds.

Tennessee Bird Brigade helps rescue birds and transport them to appropriate rehabilitation facilities within the state of Tennessee. We also attempt to reunite baby birds with their parents when possible and release birds that have been rehabilitated. We hope to create a network of volunteers to share with all of our local rehabilitators so birds and other wildlife can get the help they require in a timely manner!
