Tennessee Bird Brigade is currently recruiting volunteers in the Middle Tennessee area to create a wildlife transportation network. Volunteers will transport injured, ill, and orphaned birds and other wildlife in their personal vehicle throughout Middle Tennessee.
Typically, the transports involve picking up injured or orphaned birds/wildlife and transporting them to the nearest permitted rehabilitator. Sometimes a transport may require capturing/containing the animal. We do not expect anyone to do anything that you are not comfortable with or risk injuries. We will NOT transport rabies-vector species. Some transports may involve transporting wildlife from one rehabilitator to another and you would simply be their Uber driver! This is a volunteer position and we do no reimburse for gas.
You may be sent requests weekly, monthly, or every 6 months depending on the need in your area. Wildlife emergencies are not predictable. Most of our requests during the months of March through October. Transports can be anywhere from 20-90 minutes one way depending on where the animal is located in relation to the rehabber.
We will not transport an animal until we have received confirmation from a rehabilitator that they are able to take it.
We will post transport requests via a private, invite-only Slack channel.
