OVERVIEW
ESOL tutors work either 1-on-1 or with small groups of students in the SBU Academy or Global Youth League who are currently designated as English Language Learners (ELL). Tutoring is a mix of homework help and, for the Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors, a set curriculum aimed at ensuring that they pass the Regents Exams, SATs, and fulfill all of their graduation requirements respectively. This is the same course of study that all of the non-ELL students follow. Tutors meet with students, ages 11-18, for 2 hours on a set day every week. Tutors work with the same group of students every week. This provides tutors the opportunity to build relationships and to serve as a positive role model in youths' lives while also promoting the importance of education.
