Use your social media skills to support addiction recovery.

Strides in Recovery is a Los Angeles based nonprofit dedicated to helping people overcome addiction. Working collaboratively with addiction treatment providers and other recovery communities, we lead goal-oriented group running and walking programs for people with substance use disorders. Our recovery-focused messaging promotes mental, emotional and physical healing, while reinforcing the life skills and mindset needed to support long term sobriety. Our welcoming and supportive environment promotes a sense of community and belonging for all.

In your role, working remotely a few hours a week, you'll create and manage content about the many ways exercise supports long term sobriety. Your goal will be to raise awareness of the work we are doing and to generate support from potential volunteers, staff, treatment providers, donors, and sponsors.

The first-year relapse rate after treatment is 40-60%, and overdoses killed 90,000 Americans in the past year. You will be part of bringing those numbers down. You will be helping change lives and save lives. You will be supporting sobriety, one stride at a time.

If you choose to apply for this role, please provide a short description of your experience with social media, e.g., who you were targeting, what goals you were trying to achieve, and how you knew your posts were effective. Thank you.

About Strides In Recovery

Location:

955 Deep Valley Drive #4066, Palos Verdes Peninsula, CA 90274, US

Mission Statement

Strides in Recovery is a Southern California nonprofit which helps newly sober individuals grow physically, emotionally and mentally stronger so they can do their best at the hard work of recovery. We achieve these results by coaching people in addiction treatment programs to complete 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons.

Description

Use your passion for exercise and your friendly personality to support people on their journey to long-term sobriety. As a Strides in Recovery assistant coach / mentor, you will walk, jog or run with small groups of the newly sober who are receiving treatment at an addiction recovery program. You do NOT need to be a serious runner. You do need to be capable of walking/jogging several miles while being a good listener and engaging in supportive conversation.

Exercise, and especially exercise done toward a goal and with a team, has been clinically proven to promote the mindset needed to stay sober and reduce the risk of relapse. Training for this role will include an overview of the causes and treatment for addiction, with an emphasis on the physical, emotional, and mental health benefits of exercise in early recovery.

The first-year post-addiction treatment relapse rate is 40-60%, and since the pandemic, the number of overdose deaths has been climbing. You will be part of bringing those numbers down! Together, we will support recovery. Together, we will change lives.
