VOLUNTEER/INTERN POSITION TITLE: Public Affairs Intern

Purpose of the Position:
To support the fast-paced electoral, legislative, media and community outreach work of the Public Affairs Department. By creating grassroots advocacy on campus and surrounding community. Can be tailored to Interns interests and current political climate.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Promote media coverage by writing and distributing monthly articles to local and campus newspapers and letters to the editor in reaction to relevant articles.
  • Organize, charter, recruit members, and ensure future success of a new campus club, VOX: Voices for Planned Parenthood
  • Create alliances with other campus clubs and staff such as the women's center and health center. Organize and implement a co-sponsored event.
  • Recruit activists, provide information table in campus public areas and at relevant college events.
  • Help organize and attend local relevant community events.
  • Support current research and projects of the Public Affairs department.
  • Training:

    • Volunteer Orientation
    • On the job training on public affairs issues as needed

Time Commitment: 1 semester/2 quarters (academic). Flexible.

Location: Primarily from home and school. PPMM Administration office/Pubic Affairs office can be used for a few hours a week, if needed.

Description

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte works within three areas: education, advocacy and health care services. Through culturally sensitive, bilingual outreach, education and counseling programs, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte gives community members of all ages and backgrounds the information they need to make educated, responsible decisions about their health and sexuality. PPMM is also active as a public policy advocate at the local, state and national levels, raising public awareness on issues that affect access to reproductive and health care services. We have 34 clinics in 14 counties in California and Northern Nevada. Our health centers provide a wide range of low or no cost services to men and women including primary health care, prenatal and pediatric care, and reproductive health care such as birth control and STD testing and treatment.
