Mission Statement
Providing free community events that "brings history to life" through live performances conducted by Chautauqua Scholars along with the provision of high quality virtual events on a wide array of topics such as history, race relations, public deliberation, etc..
Description
The Athens Chautauqua Society is a community cultural organization that provides humanities-focused educational programs for the general public. The History Comes Alive! Festival will bring history to life through interactive theatre and will compel discussion that stimulates critical thinking. The Athens Chautauqua Society believes "history comes alive" when historical characters tell their stories in their own words.
We closely collaborate with the nonprofit Greenville Chautauqua (South Carolina) that has more than 20 years of experience hosting numerous "history comes alive" events that attract attendees from all over the region.
