Social Distancing Got You Down... My Friend in Bolton Could Write the Book

ORGANIZATION: Aging and Disability Services

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.
Volunteer Your Way to a Great Day!
Help a person who is legally blind to manage their paper, mail and official documents. You will be a help and you can make a new friend too!

If social distancing has you down, you could learn a thing or two from your neighbors who have written the book on social isolation. They have to take the bus or a cab to get groceries, never get out to the coffee shop for a chai tea or macchiato with friends and have trouble accessing online shopping or routine social networking platforms. It may 'novel' for us but it is the norm for them.
YOU can help! Be ready to become a volunteer for a neighbor who is blind - you can help get them to the store and assist with reading labels, assist with sorting and reading mails, if you have a flexible daytime schedule an occasional doctor's visit would be Fantastic! You can help with just a few hours per week or month and the schedule is flexible for you and your new friend to plan based on your availability. It's so easy...do what you can and others will help. Still not sure give me a call and tell me about you and how you want to help a neighbor - we will work it out ;)

Requirements to be a great volunteer include:

  • a desire to help others;
  • a pleasant demeanor;
  • a good reading/speaking voice;
  • average reading skills;
  • organizational or planning abilities;
  • a good driving record;
  • a clear criminal history;
  • two references
  • access to a car with proof of insurance;
  • a minimum of $50/100k liability and $5,000 of property damage coverage.

Volunteers will be matched within three to five miles of home or work.
