Volunteer Outreach Committee

Objective: Members of this committee will focus on raising awareness of the importance of court appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children so they can thrive in safe, permanent homes. Particular effort will be made to engage diverse communities in an equitable and inclusive manner, connecting CASA of the River Region with organizations, civic groups, communities, and businesses that have yet to be engaged with CASA of the River Region and to maintain previously built relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a CASA ambassador and understand CASA’s mission and impact to be able to properly communicate this to potential volunteers
  • Spread awareness of CASA by posting on social media, assisting with brochure and marketing material distribution, hosting gatherings to educate others about CASA, and inviting our team to speak at an affiliated place of business, faith group, neighborhood association, etc.
  • Work collaboratively with all committee members and CASA staff to create outreach strategies including but not limited to: community events, speaking engagements, business/organization/etc. partnerships
  • Strategize and brainstorm how to best reach communities, businesses, civic organizations and faith ministries currently not connected with CASA
  • Provide feedback and guidance on current outreach efforts
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities around networking, diversity, equity, and inclusion and any other topics that may benefit committee members, CASA, or the volunteer advocates

Qualifications:

  • Enjoys talking with people
  • Creativity and problem solving skills
  • Professional, courteous disposition
  • Public speaking skills preferred
  • Wide range of community network connections preferred
  • Ability to participate in 1-2 events per year on CASA’s behalf
  • Ability to transport supplies to and from event spaces

Time Commitment:

  • Attend a minimum of 3 out of 6 committee meetings a year
  • Facilitate 1-2 community events per year on CASA’s behalf (estimated 6-8 hours total)

Measure of Success:

  • CASA of the River Region attends 4 tabling events and 4 speaking engagements per quarter, preferably ones new to CASA
  • Connections are made with 30 businesses, organizations, faith groups, civic organizations, non-profits, and more that are new to CASA
  • Existing relationships are maintained and strengthened
  • Diversity in volunteers increases, and number of volunteer applications that result in full-fledged CASA’s increases, with a goal number for the year of 70

Mission Statement

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a private, non-profit organization incorporated in November 1984. The mission of CASA is to provide volunteer advocates who are committed to work on behalf of abused and neglected children involved in the court system. CASA volunteers provide a constant source of information to the court and undertake any and all activities necessary for the promotion of these children's health, safety and welfare until a permanent disposition is made.

Description

To meet our mission, CASA recruits, screens, trains, supervises and supports individuals from the communities in Jefferson, Bullitt, Henry, Oldham, Trimble, Shelby and Spencer counties to perform this important advocacy function for children in need.
