Invest in the life of a Lee's Summit youth - become a tutor/mentor!

ORGANIZATION: The Tutoring Club @ Deerbrook

Are you available to invest in the lives of Lee's Summit youth? As a volunteer tutor, you will provide academic assistance, mentorship, and encouragement to a Kindergarten through 6th grade student who you will be matched with for the duration of the club year, which is September 2022 to April 2023, for a total of 24 weeks. You will be matched with your student for a one-hour time slot on Mondays or Tuesdays between 4:00 and 6:30 pm, based upon your availability. A mandatory training is required and on-going support is provided. More information can be found at http://deerbrook.church/club-information.

Description

The Tutoring Club @ Deerbrook is an initiative established in partnership with Deerbrook Covenant Church to invest in the lives of Lee's Summit youth, their families, and the community. As a Partner in Education with Meadow Lane Elementary School, Deerbrook has the heart and resources for this program.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Background Check
  • Must be at least 18
  • Orientation or Training
  • One hour a week from September 2022 until April 2023. There will also be a required training prior to being paired with a student.
  • Knowledge of basic reading, writing, and math skills. Ability to work with youth in a respectful and caring manner. Ability and desire to motivate youth to improve their academic skills. Ability to set and maintain clear boundaries.
