Pet Peace of Mind Volunteers

Pet Peace of Mind volunteers are hospice trained volunteers who assist with the care of our patient's pets. The goal is to provide our patients with the assurance that we understand the role of their pet in contributing to their emotional and spiritual well-being. The purpose is to recognize and actively support keeping patients and pets together during their time on hospice.

Volunteer tasks may include:

  • Walking
  • Playing
  • Feeding
  • Waste clean-up
  • Delivering pet food/supplies
  • Transporting animals to vet or grooming appointments
  • Securing future plans for pets such as re-homing, or fostering
  • Recruiting additional pet peace of mind volunteers
  • Fundraising to support pet peace of mind programming needs
  • Managing administrative aspects of the program

Our hospice care teams include specially trained and experienced doctors, nurses, nurse aides, social workers and spiritual and bereavement counselors. As a hospice volunteer, you'll be an important member of the hospice care team, helping to serve a wide range of people with a variety of life-limiting illnesses. UT Hospice serves patients and families in Knox county and 15 surrounding counties. We are recognized as a 4-star hospice (the highest ranking) by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization through the "We Honor Vets" initiative.
