The Little Free Pantries Project is seeking someone bright, enthusiastic, savvy and not afraid to think "outside the box" and edit the voices of pantry hosts into digestible content for both web and social media platforms. We are an all volunteer, grassroots driven organization www.thelittlefreepantries.org

Do you have a passion for connecting people and building community through a common purpose? Are you passionate about reducing barriers to food and delivering an avenue for people to resource food on a hyper local level by way of neighbors supporting neighbors? If so, The Little Free Pantries Project may be right for you!

This vital role is part of a graphics design team in creating a vibrant and active online community, promoting and sharing the voice and messaging of food insecurity and the power a Little Free Pantry can hold for a community. As a member of our graphics design team, you’ll work collectively with a small team of volunteers, managing & editing video content for the public.

We believe food resources should be available to all regardless of need. Little Free Pantries are a mode to deliver food through mutual aid, allowing us to function as neighbors in solidarity rather than charity, ensuring the organizing effort is mutually beneficial and all people are cared for. Little Free Pantries are a zero-barrier access point to food, allowing for non-judgemental, anonymous access to food. Food is freely exchanged, acknowledging some may need more while others need less. Little Free Pantries not only support neighbors who are facing food insecurity but also build micro-communities. They empower people to make immediate change toward their neighborhood.

Diversity and Inclusion:

Equity is fundamental to our mission to fight hunger and nourish our community. Where we live, how much money we make, or the color of our skin currently influences access to healthy and culturally-appropriate foods. We must address the roots of these inequities so everyone in our community has the opportunity to live their best life. We invite individuals from different abilities, ethnicities, genders, races, religions, sexual orientations, age and socioeconomic backgrounds to take part in and shape our work.

Our ideal Committee Member candidate will have:

  • A deep belief that there should be more low-barrier access points to food resources in our communities
  • Committed work ethic. Excellent follow-up skills
  • A creative individual with experience in videography and/or technology who uses good judgment when deciding content and works well independently.
  • Experience with video editing
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. Follows up and completes tasks
  • Excellent problem solving skills, ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Good strategic and tactical thinking
  • The ability to work in a collaborative style and move others to action by planning, motivating, and organizing work tasks

Responsibilities include:

  • Splicing and editing interviews with our pantry hosts into short key segments. The intention of these videos is to be used to tell a story of the impact LFP’s make in connecting neighborhoods while providing low barrier, 24-7 access to food.

  • Digitally spicing video and synchronizing them into rough cut files which will be used for web and social media

  • Inputting sound to enhance footage, which may include selecting music

  • Laughing and not taking yourself too seriously! We don’t!..., but we do take our projects mission seriously and driven to continue to find ways to provide more low barrier access points to food

About The Little Free Pantries

Location:

Columbia City, Seattle, WA 98118, US

Mission Statement

Little Free Pantries provide a viable, low barrier, 24/7, non-judgemental access point to food and they empower people to make immediate change toward their neighborhood. Neighbors give what they can by placing food, hygiene, or paper items inside the pantry. Anyone who needs those items can freely take from the pantry, without judgement.

Description

The aim of The Little Free Pantries Project is to foster the cooperation of neighbors to address immediate and local needs surrounding food insecurity. Little Free Pantries work alongside more established models such as food banks and offer a low-barrier access point to food while helping fill the gaps in the system

We believe our neighborhoods are the core to any healthy community and by providing more accessible points for healthy, culturally relevant foods, as well as opportunities for neighbors to help neighbors, our neighborhoods strengthen. The opportunity for culturally desired and healthy food access is possible through this form of direct giving, by neighbors and for neighbors.

We believe food resources should be available to all regardless of need. Little Free Pantries are a mode to deliver food through mutual aid, allowing us to function as neighbors in solidarity rather than charity, ensuring the organizing effort is mutually beneficial and all people are cared for. A goal of The Little Free Pantries Project is to create a community-rich place where food is seen as a shared resource through social practice rather than as a private good and through this action, communities connect and become stronger.
