Activities of the day may include invasive species removal, native plant plantings, plant propagation, seed processing, transplanting, pot washing and much more! Help us work towards our mission of building community, connecting people with nature, and protecting and enhancing Mount Sutro, one of the city’s wildest and most beautiful green spaces. In response to the reopening of San Francisco, we are asking all volunteers to continue to provide their own masks. Please bring your own water and snacks and make sure to wear clothes you can get dirty in. All tools and supplies for the day will be provided. You may bring your own gardening gloves if preferred.
Please RSVP to receive an info packet with more detailed information about what to expect as well as our 2 participation waivers! Participants under 18 will need a parent or guardian signature. About Sutro Stewards

Mount Sutro Open Space Reserve, San Francisco, CA 94131, US

Mission Statement

To create Urban Recreational Opportunities while practicing Sustainable Habitat Conservation Through Stewardship.

The Sutro Stewards was formed to address a unique need in San Francisco, fostering positive relationships between habitat conservation needs and the recreational needs of a dense urban population.

Over the last seven years our founding members and thousands of volunteers have reactivated a virtually abandoned 61 acre open space, located in the center of San Francisco, into a destination for exploration, recreation and stunning forest views. Having accomplished this, we are now working to extend our impact through habitat restoration and environmental education. Our nursery has been actively gathering locally rare plants to place in our seed-bank gardens, which in turn will provide the seed and cuttings to produce plants in large enough quantities for field planting projects. This projects help to minimize the continuing loss of habitat by reintroducing these species to new suitable sites they may colonize.
