ORGANIZATION: Access Youth Academy

Access Youth Academy is a nonprofit after-school program that serves underserved, low-income students from middle and high schools across San Diego County. Students enrolled in our program are trained in the sport of squash and are offered a variety of academic enrichment opportunities, including tutoring, academic check-ins, college advising support and more. Our mission is to provide the necessary resources for students to apply and graduate from a 4-year college/university. We accomplish this by empowering youth to excel through our program combining academic support, community service, and the sport of squash.

Access Youth Academy needs tutors from 3:30 - 6:00 PM Monday through Thursday. We are asking for volunteers to commit to tutoring students in-person at least 3 weekdays each month. Our program is conducted in-person so we are looking for tutors that are available to meet and tutor our students in-person at our new facility, located in Southeast San Diego. However, we will consider virtual options as well.

Students in our program range from grades 5-12. Science courses also vary by grade level but typically include: elementary sciences, middle school sciences, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Environmental Science.

As an organization that works to serve underserved and low-income students across San Diego, we believe that our volunteer tutors are an extension of the work that we have already begun - to provide academic support to youth in the greater San Diego community. Not to mention, it is also a great way to gain experience working with youth in an educational environment.
