Board of Directors Job Descriptions

The mission of A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc provide a strong self-image to change, encourage and motivate women to become self-sufficient and successful members of their community.

Our Goals
. To provide those who at risk in Alameda County and other nearby counties., (i.e., homeless, victims of domestic violence, those in or seeking recovery, mental health and those coming out of incarceration.

. 3-year program, which would encourage self-sufficiency, in preparation for permanent housing. A variety of socially progressive initiatives, that can be included either initially or introduced over time.
. Three program phases to help address the missing gaps in services and interventions that perpetuate unresolved issues.
. Providing the tool while going through the transformation process, as well as addressing domestic violence, recovery and mental health, giving motivation and hope needed to sustain the difficult long-term process of acquiring skills and attaining self-sufficiency.

The primary functions of A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. Board of Directors are summarized into two general categories.

Governance
Developing policies and procedures that will A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc to fulfill its mission statement, strategic plan and other mandates directed by its governing documents.

Fiscal oversight including the review and approval of investments, the development of A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. budget process and ensuring all applicable laws and accepted accounting practices are adhered to by A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. In general, Board Members are responsible for the fiscal health of the organization; and ensuring that all programs, projects and services of A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. are following the organization's mission statement.

Fundraising
A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. to fulfill its annual and long-term goals and objectives, Board Members must be active participants in our fundraising program.


Board of Directors Position
The Board will support the work of A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. and provide mission-based leadership and strategic governance. While day-to-day operations are led by A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Board -CEO relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected. Specific Board Member responsibilities include: (Leadership, governance, and oversight).

Mission Statement

Our mission is provide a strong self-image; to help change; encourage and motivate women, to become self-sufficient and successful members of their community. A Diamond in the Ruff as a designated essential business, would like to continue providing quality and safe transitional housing program services for women; who are at risk in Alameda County, and other nearby counties. The specific purpose of our organization is to work with single women and women with children in Alameda County and other nearby counties, impacted by substance abuse, domestic violence survivors, mental health, homelessness and those coming out of incarceration. While providing temporary housing and addressing the identified gaps in services and interventions that perpetuate unresolved issues, while helping those to obtain self-sufficiency.

Description

A Diamond in the Ruff is one of the integrated nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations fighting against homelessness, domestic violence and mental health in Alameda County. We work hard to stress the importance of social and economic justice. Establishing a sense of belonging to our community; with love of self and neighbor; heal and grow together; promote self-esteem; practicing non-violence; act to protect the safety and security of our children and women; nurture, stress relief and conflict resolution. Creating diversity, within our organization, which is built on a place of deep respect, breaking down barriers and stereotypes; encouraging diversity of our values, beliefs and experiences.

A Diamond in the Ruff showing sustainability, consistency, living in a community and taking responsibility for the impact of our actions and choices that have on our communities. Building bridges/erecting ladders for women of all colors in our community. These are the collaborative efforts, that stem from the heartbeats of women we serve in our communities.
A Diamond in the Ruff determination to use our work as vehicle for healing not just the lives of women, but their families, their children and future generations.

  • Board Terms/Participation- A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc Board Members will serve a minimum of 1-year to be eligible for re-appointment for additional terms. Board meetings will be held monthly and committee meetings.
  • This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about A Diamond in the Ruff, Inc. mission, program and work and who has a track record of board leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature.
