Our organization is dedicated to start and manage music tutoring programs around the world. Music tutoring programs are student-run organizations that offer free or reduced rate music lessons on a weekly basis to young students in their school district or community. Each program is a multi-grade community where high school tutors teach and inspire younger students to stick with their instrument, building positive long-term impact in their local music community. Starting a tutoring program is a great way to provide an affordable, accessible outlet to music education to students (especially those from underserved communities), provide a unique leadership opportunity for musicians at your high school, and help strengthen your school music department as we return to in person instruction.

As a program coordinator (somebody who starts/runs a program), you will be in charge of designing the program's mission/vision, working with your school music director or community organization to plan logistics and build the tutoring program. Once the program is launched, you will be in charge of managing day to day operations and serving as a visionary for developing future plans for your program. We will provide you with extensive support through consultation and resources to ensure that you will have everything you need to smoothly set up your program.

If you are interested in teaching but not setting up a program, we have many tutoring programs around the world to which you can apply for. If there is no program at your local area, and you are still interested in teaching, please reach out to us and we will find others interested in starting a program you can work with. Mission Statement

ALTO is an international, youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing accessible and quality music education to young students around the world. We aim to fulfill this by providing high school musicians and their music directors with the necessary resources, consulting, grants, and global networks to start and manage student-led music tutoring programs in their school or community. Each program offers free or reduced rate private lessons taught by high school tutors to elementary + middle school students in the surrounding area. Each program is run by local high school musicians and is established to foster long-term musical unity and growth within the school district/community it serves. To further enrich our tutors' and students' musical growth, ALTO also offers local and worldwide events such as masterclasses, performance opportunities, workshops, seminars, and social events. For more about our mission, see our website at https://www.altomusictutoring.org/.

Description

ALTO currently supports 23 music tutoring programs spanning 9 U.S states/territories and 5 countries. These programs have collectively offered 20,000+ lessons to 1,400+ students taught by 400+ tutors. Over the last six months, our team has totaled up to 300+ hours of program consultation and development with our 60+ Program Coordinators. Additionally, we've been featured on several media outlets including MSN, NBC Sacramento (KCRA3), NHK, The Enterprise, Yahoo, and more.

We have also held several virtual and local events such as masterclasses, Q&A sessions, recitals, and we've supported our programs with our extensive grant opportunities.

School music programs across the nation have been greatly hurt by the pandemic, with some schools cutting the performing arts altogether. In hopes of reviving and reinvigorating these music programs, we are working with dozens of schools across the nation this summer to launch music tutoring programs in their community.
