Director of Volunteer Operations


Introduction:

GJ - Alleviating Hunger & Food Waste (GJ) is a non-profit organization (501(c)(3)) that is designed to create a platform for volunteers to aid in the transfer of excess food from going to waste to areas such as food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens.


Detailed below are the goals GJ-Alleviating Hunger wishes to achieve.


  • To provide a medium to transport surplus food from food providers to food storage areas such as food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens

  • To engender a proper way to optimize the benefits of the volunteers and reduce the costs (time, monetary resources, etc.) incurred by the volunteers in this organization

  • To provide opportunities for volunteers to obtain volunteer hours, networking opportunities, and service experiences

  • To reduce and potentially alleviate the wastage of food in the local communities and counties.

Over the past year, GJ - Alleviating Hunger and Food Waste has partnered with Dunkin, Panera, and Elaine’s Bagels (food providers), and Salvation Army, Auntie Na’s Village, Fish & Loaves, Wayne State Food Pantry, and University of Toledo (food storage areas)


2021 Mission:

To further better the coordination and organization of our volunteers and their associated food transport networks, we would like to launch a new position on the board of directors called the Director of Volunteer Operations.







The duties of the Director of Volunteer Operations shall be:

  • He/She shall be in charge of making sure notifications and reminders are sent out to the food transport volunteers on a daily and weekly basis
  • He/She shall oversee the food tracking database and make sure the quantity collected and donated along with the service hours are documented properly and accurately
  • He/She shall be the main contact for the volunteer operations committee and lead a group of volunteers in the effort to ensure each food transport volunteer is properly receiving infor mation and notifications accordingly
  • He/She shall work closely with the Vice-President to discuss any new possible ideas to ensure the continuous improvement and review of the volunteer operations committee
  • He/She shall meet on a weekly and/or monthly basis with the volunteer operations committee to make sure each committee member is being held accountable for the work that is being done
  • He/She shall attend the Board of Directors meetings and communicate updates with the President and the other Directors
  • He/She shall maintain and communicate volunteering opportunities, the volunteering process, and work with the Director of Website and Digital Marketing to present and maintain this information online.
  • It shall be the duty of the Director of Volunteer Operations to work with volunteers and present any issues brought on by the volunteers to the Board of Directors.

Description

Objectives:

GJ-Alleviating Hunger & Food Waste has the following objectives that it desires to tackle:

  • to provide a medium to transport surplus food from food providers to food storage areas such as food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens
  • to engender a proper way to optimize the benefits of the volunteers and reduce the costs (time, monetary resources, etc.) incurred by the volunteers in this organization
  • to provide opportunities for volunteers to obtain volunteer hours, networking opportunities, and service experiences
  • to reduce and potentially alleviate the wastage of food in the local communities and counties.

Programs/Achievements:

As of now, GJ - Alleviating Hunger & Food Waste is working with three food providers, two Panera locations (6 Mile Rd, Livonia & Haggerty Rd, Livonia) and Dunkin' (Plymouth, MI). We are also working with the Salvation Army (Farmington, MI) and Auntie Na's Village (Detroit, MI).
