Volunteering Overview NOTICE: Blue River Horse Center is in compliance with all Summit County Public Health "Business Social Distancing Protocol" regulations.
Become part of an amazing group of dedicated people who love helping kids, adults and horses. BRHC volunteers assist in educational programs and learn to evaluate and rehabilitate rescued horses so they may find forever homes. We offer training for our volunteers who come to us from all levels of experience (free as part of the BRHC Membership Program - see more below).
Our educational programs provide experiential learning with horses that assist us in teaching communication, self-awareness and leadership skills. Since horses have a natural ability to show us things about ourselves that we may not be aware of, it allows us to make immediate corrections so we can be more successful at applying these techniques to our human relationships. Many of you who have experienced this at the ranch have shared how this knowledge has had a positive effect on your lives, especially in your relationships with others.

Mission Statement
The purpose of BRHC is to serve our community by offering experiential programs with rescued horses building self-leadership skills in children and adults. Our vision is to transform lives through well-structured and safe human and equine interactions. BRHC is primarily an educational organization partnering people with horses for the betterment of mankind and horses. Our signature program - Leadership Awareness with Horses - promotes self-awareness and constructive decision-making. These types of experiential programs with horses have been shown to have a longer-lasting and deeper impact because of the horse’s positive effects on human behavior.

Our Philosophy
We believe that success in the human arena depends on the thoughts, attitudes and actions that need to be present to support a happy and fulfilling life. We also believe that animals, especially horses, have a lot to teach us regarding communication, collaboration, relationships and unconditional love.
There is something "magical" that happens when a horse shows a child (or adult) what they are thinking and how they are being, in ways they are not aware of. The horse essentially "tells" us when we are being successful or not, by being reflections of our behavior.
The horse shows us when we are thinking good thoughts or bad thoughts, by being relaxed when we are thinking positive thoughts and being nervous and fearful when we are allowing negative thoughts. By thinking the correct thoughts, which directly affects our energy, the horse partners with us and will collaborate in all sorts of fun activities. Horses, because of their hyper-vigilance and loving, intelligent nature - can raise our awareness about ourselves by being mirrors of our behavior.
