Thank you for considering volunteering with Encompass Health - Hospice! There are many opportunities for military and veterans to volunteers to serve hospice patients in Marshall County.

At this time only volunteers that have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 will be allowed enter patient’s homes. Volunteers who have not been fully vaccinated cannot enter homes but instead will maintain social distancing, wear appropriate PPE provided by Encompass and only make no-contact "porch" visits.

We are looking for military and veterans to honor and provide companionship to hospice patients who are military veterans. Volunteerism is flexible to volunteer’s schedule. You can volunteer as a group or on your own. Family members of veterans are welcome to serve too.

We have patients who are military Veterans that would benefit from companionship and veteran-to-veteran comradery. Volunteers are also needed to assist with honoring hospice veterans for their service with veteran pinning ceremonies, and delivering veteran certificates. At Encompass, we appreciate our Veteran patients and desire for them to receive full care, honor and dignity at the end of their lives. No Veteran should die alone.

Direct Patient Support Volunteers must complete the application, a hospice volunteer orientation, background screenings, and an introduction to specific Veteran issues at the end of life.

Requirements

A time log will be provided for documentation of donated time. We provide a comprehensive, free training for all of our volunteers. Volunteers are welcome to provide assistance during the day, after hours, or on weekends.

Volunteers must complete the application and orientation processes, which in include background screenings, a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Volunteers must have reliable transportation. Volunteers must be organized, the ability to multitask and complete written documentation and be self-motivated to work independently.

Our compassionate end-of-life care is provided in the patient’s home, whether that is a home address, nursing home, assisted living community, independent living community or other location. Our experienced team understands the complexity of issues and feelings that surround hospice care and end of life. Our care process is designed to maximize our patient’s quality of life and offer our patients and their love ones comfort, support and guidance when facing a terminal illness
