Thank you for considering volunteering with Encompass Hospice. There are many opportunities for our volunteers to interact directly and serve hospice patients in Marshall County.

At this time only volunteers that have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 will be allowed enter patient’s homes. Volunteers who have not been fully vaccinated cannot enter homes but instead will maintain social distancing, wear appropriate PPE provided by Encompass and only make no- contact "porch" visits.

Companionship volunteers are trained to go into a hospice patient’s home and provide non-medical support through socialization and companionship. Activities may include spending time with patients, reading, listening to music, playing cards, painting nails, or talking about interests!

Caregiver relief or respite volunteers visit patients in order give their caregiver the opportunity to leave the home for a couple hours, allowing them to take a break and the opportunity to run errands. Respite volunteers do not provide medical care or "hands on" care to patients; they are only there to keep a patient company during the absence of their caregiver.

Visiting/ Volunteers make deliveries for birthdays, special occasions, holidays, and help with small household tasks

Spiritual care volunteers meet with patient and family to provide spiritual care. Volunteers are matched to patients of the same faith and spiritual background. Volunteers are welcomed to sing hymns, do devotions, or spiritual readings, and provide prayer, etc. if the patient wishes. You will receive additional training and guidance by the Encompass chaplain.

The volunteer coordinator will mentor volunteers until comfortable and confident to be independent.

Requirements

A time log will be provided for documentation of donated time. We provide a comprehensive, free training for all of our volunteers. Volunteers are welcome to provide assistance during the day, after hours, or on weekends.

Volunteers must complete the application and orientation processes, which in include background screenings, a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance. Volunteers must have reliable transportation. Volunteers must be organized, have the ability to multitask and complete written documentation being self-motivated to work independently.

Jr. volunteers ages 14-18 may volunteer as long as they are accompanied and supervised by an adult volunteer.

Volunteer commitment is ongoing, and flexible to volunteer’s schedule. Preferably at least 1 hour to 5 hours a week.

Please contact me if you think you would be interested in volunteering. I look forward to hearing from you today! Crissy H. Faulkner, BSW Volunteer Coordinator
