We are looking for a male volunteer interested in mentoring a 17-year-old refugee from Somalia in Bethany's refugee foster care program. This youth entered the U.S. in March of 2021 and has been in one of our new arrival group homes since May of 2021. He is a 9th grader at a local charter school. In his mentee survey he shared that he is more quiet than talkative, he prefers going out in the community to staying home, and he enjoys watching football, movies, and going out. He is interested in studying Information Technology and entering a career in it. He's specifically interested in software programming and forex trading/stock specifically. He loves working with computers. When asked specifically about mentoring, he said he would be interested in exploring the city, learning a new talent, and watching movies.

Mission Statement

Bethany demonstrates the love and compassion of Jesus Christ by protecting children, empowering youth, and strengthening families through quality social services.

Description

For refugees fleeing danger, the search for safety can be extremely challenging. And too often, people become numbers in a system that can feel impossible to navigate. That’s why we guide, protect, advocate for, and support refugees. In the U.S., we offer resettlement and continued support services in strategic locations.

Bethany Christian Services' Refugee and Immigrant Services program encompasses adult and family resettlement as well as refugee foster care for Unaccompanied Children and Unaccompanied Refugee Minors. Our services for unaccompanied refugee youth include case management, counseling, housing (foster homes, group homes, independent living), classes (New Arrival, Life Skills, driver's training), and volunteer mentoring and tutoring.
