Mission Statement

The Parkinson Association of the Carolinas (PAC) was established in 2002 to serve as a resource for individuals and their families living in the Carolinas who are affected by Parkinson's disease. PAC seeks to empower these individuals and families through education, outreach and direct support.

Description

It is our goal to provide people with Parkinson’s with the tools needed to remain independent, stay active and maintain a good quality of life, until a cure can be found. We provide support to caregivers, family members and friends, who are facing their own unique set of challenges related to caring for someone with the Disease.

We strive to help patients: manage symptoms; adapt to daily challenges; advocate for the best treatment; manage financial burdens; and become a voice in finding a cure. As a result, patients feel more empowered to guide their own journey with the Disease.

It is estimated that there are over 60,000 people living with Parkinson’s disease in North and South Carolina.

In an effort to meet our mission, PAC currently offers the following programs and services:

  • Educational workshops and symposia
  • A monthly electronic newsletter, and our Website both of which include educational items about Parkinson’s disease, resources in the community, support group meetings, and movement therapy opportunities.
  • A toll-free resource line for individuals seeking information about Parkinson’s disease and details about resources in their area.
  • We assist 80 support groups throughout North and South Carolina to design and facilitate meetings that are in-line with the needs of those who participate. We also provide support and resources to individuals who are interested in forming a new support group in their area.
