Companions needed who can bring the gift of music to Hospice patients! Any form of music is needed and appreciated. Patients love to hear favorite songs from their past played on a variety of instruments: guitars, ukuleles, violins, pianos...the sky’s the limit! Even a companion playing a song on a smart phone is needed and welcome! Shifts and times are flexible. Volunteering takes place wherever the patient calls home in and around Des Moines and surrounding suburbs: nursing homes, assisted living facilities, private homes, and at the UnityPoint Hospice Home: Taylor House. An orientation and onboarding process is provided, along with an introduction to the patient.

Description
UnityPoint Hospice volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice care team. Volunteers can provide direct and indirect patient support. Direct support includes: bedside companionship, respite care for the family, patient life review, supportive phone calls, letter writing to the patient, hand massage, listening to music, playing a musical instrument, pet therapy. Indirect support includes: running errands, greeting and screening visitors at Taylor House, administrative tasks, answering phones, etc. We work with each volunteer to help determine the right fit and area in which to help.
