Chicagoland Foster Manager - SAYv Animal Organization

SAYv Animal Organization is a start-up animal welfare organization working on life-sayving solutions inter U.S. (primarily Chicagoland and Aruba). We intend to eventually expand across the U.S. and add farm animals to our efforts. We are focused on technology, efficiency, networking and compassion. As a start-up organization, we have A LOT to learn and a lot to organize, but we are ready for the challenge and welcome any team member that has a go-getter attitude just like the rest of us!

This volunteer position will help build this program as it launches and maintain operations on a go-forward basis for the Chicagoland area. Foster Director title is possible depending on experience (and Foster Director would be our global lead).

Job Responsibilities

  • Implement foster care program work plans, goals, and objectives (more work as we launch, then also on an ongoing basis)
  • Coordinate ongoing care of animals in foster care directly with foster homes
  • Provide ongoing guidance/mentorship and support to foster homes. This can include: training, providing supplies, giving high-level medical advice, emergency care support/guidance and also helping to maintain the morale of foster supporters
  • Communicate and support foster parents to ensure fostering is as fun and rewarding as possible using different channels: social media, phone calls, emails, texts
  • Regularly collect updates from foster parents including commentary on animal behavior and personality. Collect photos regularly
  • Process foster home applications from start to finish: initial assessment, phone interviews, reference check, home visits (virtual for now due to COVID-19)
  • Maintain and update animal-tracking database (Shelterluv)
  • Advise fosters on behavior or medical protocols according to policies and procedures
  • Assist with animal transport to and from appointments when available
  • Schedule appointments for animal pick-ups, rechecks and/or drop offs in alignment with resources and time availability
  • Coordinate with Adoption Coordinators and/or Adoption Manager to move animals from foster to adoption
  • Ensure foster surveys are completed by foster parents along with all other required documentation
  • Help onboard new foster parents into the program
  • Help add new foster coordinators to the team as the program expands
  • Keep foster parents up to date on each animal’s adoption status
  • Support and promote SAYv Animal Org/build community awareness for the cause and the program

Requirements:

  • Passion for animals and animal welfare
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Tech-savvy
  • Strong problem-solving skills; ability to proactively seek solutions
  • Foster Coordinator or Manager experience strongly preferred
  • Understanding/desire to help others; non-judgemental
  • Ability to dedicate 5 - 10 hours per week to the program
  • Ability to create processes and procedures; launch the foster program
