Volunteers United/AmeriCorps Seniors is a program of United Way that recruits volunteers for non-profit agencies in Martin County. The mission of the organization where this opportunity is located is to provide a coordinated, collaborative, and multi-disciplinary approach to sexual violence on the Treasure Coast. Our goal is to provide sexual assault survivors with the services and support to lead them towards empowerment and reconnection through serving the needs of survivors and their families with crisis intervention and advocacy. Respecting and defending the rights of survivors through diligence and perseverance. Dedicated to educating the public, sensitizing the law enforcement community to sexual violence and victims needs with leadership and collaboration.
Volunteers are needed to shadow advocates until fully trained for first responder rape crisis intervention and accompaniment. Provide support for victims who have been sexually assaulted through law enforcement interview or forensic examination at the hospital or child protection team (CPT). Also must provide victims with community resources to meet their immediate needs. Must be willing to be on-call which may include nights and weeks.
Minimum requirements: HS Diploma or GED, 30 hours of training (provided). Two year commitment with 20 hours per month minimum. Hours may range based on your choosing. Mon - Sunday 24 hour period.
Community agency for resources and referrals helpful although not required. Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time. Must travel to multiple places in one night. Be on a computer or phone for extended periods of time, be able to multi-task.
Background check and finger printing required at agency expense.
