We need volunteers to pick up a grocery order and a produce order on Friday mornings between 9 am and 11 am in and around Philadelphia and to drop it off at First Presbyterian Church at 20th and Walnut Sts after 10 am and unpack the orders in the pantry. Total time is 2.5 hours or less and requires lifting up 1-4 boxes of produce (about 40 pounds maximum) and grocery bags. Volunteer must have a car.

We need pairs of volunteers to deliver meal kits to our member families throughout the city of Philadelphia on Saturday mornings, beginning at First Presbyterian Church at 20th and Walnut Sts at 10:15 am. Generally it takes between 45 minutes and 1 1/2 hours to complete the deliveries you are assigned. One person drives while the other drops the meal kits at the front door - no contact is necessary and everything remains socially distanced.

We need pantry packers to pack meal kits on Saturday mornings between 9 am and 11 am at the First Presbyterian Church at 20th and Walnut Sts. Volunteers will pack the bags in preparation for the delivery drivers and help load them in the vehicles, before cleaning and closing up the pantry so it is ready for the following week.

Mission Statement

We are a charitable organization that provides complete, nutritionally balanced and delicious meals to the families of Philadelphia school children who face food insecurity.

Description

Zia aims to combat the food insecurity of schoolchildren by providing nutritious meal kits to their families on a weekly basis. Zia was started in 2015 when its founder partnered with a local elementary school to cook for families in need. Staffed by generous and caring volunteers, Zia expanded to opening a food pantry in that same school, providing 8-10 meals a month to nearly 40 member families. Zia switched to a delivery model so that we can serve even more families.
