The Senior Companion Program provides a way for limited-income people age 55 or older to provide assistance and friendship to adults who have difficulty with daily living tasks, such as grocery shopping and bill paying. Senior Companions spend from 15 to 40 hours a week helping two to four adult clients live independently in their homes. Senior Companions provide relief to caregivers and alert doctors and family members to protential problems. In return for their service, Senior Companions receive a tax free stipend, accident and liability insurance, reimbursement for transportation, and monthly training.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Senior Companion program is to provide meaningful retirement opportunities for low income persons 55 plus by assisting other adults and seniors who need person-to-person support because of loneliness, illness or disability. By taking care of simple chores and offering contact to the outside world, Senior Companions often provide the services that frail seniors need to live independently.

Description

OFFERS FRIENDSHIP AND ASSISTANCE TO SENIORS IN THEIR HOMES

Through the Senior Companion Program, people age 60 and older provide assistance and friendship to homebound adults. Senior Companions serve frail older adults and their caregivers, adults with disabilities, and those with terminal illnesses. Senior Companions usually serve two to four clients on a weekly basis, serving 20 hours a week. If you are interested in being a Senior Companion, you must meet income eligibility requirements, and for your time you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation, some meals during service, an annual physical, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. Pre-Service and monthly training sessions provided.
