Mission & Vision

Global Deeds is devoted to systemically disrupting the cycle of poverty by assisting public schools, nonprofits, and corporations in empowering disadvantaged youth through modern education and employment

We create customized support systems that enable students to reach their potential as technically savvy, financially stable and socially-conscious citizens.

With our collaborative network of corporate sponsors and advocates within 41 cities, we will cultivate enthusiasm in the next generation and ultimately reduce poverty rates in the Global Deeds community and beyond.

Program Summary

The teaching profession is the only one that creates all other professions, and this clearly defines its level of importance. We believe that one of the best ways to help students succeed academically is by making sure their teachers are equipped with a robust support system that would enable them to provide quality education to their students.

Global Deeds Foundation focuses on assisting schools, nonprofits, and corporations in empowering disadvantaged youth through innovative education and employment. As a way of responding to the high demand for teaching assistantships within public high schools, and given the increasing number of students per classroom, Global Deeds Foundation is conducting an initiative to help alleviate such situation.

NOTE: The program can be done online and/or in person, depending on circumstances and needs.

Responsibilities

Upon acceptance to the program, all Global Deeds Fellows go through a one-day training session and are matched with a teacher to assist a class. Class meetings are usually three times per week during the mornings or early afternoons. In addition to taking on individual tasks subject to their unique background and expertise, all Fellows collaborate with one another as a team and meet together once per month to gain insight from their experiences and formulate ways to improve the program. Fellows are supervised by the teachers they assist and are expected to obtain a C.O.R.I (Criminal Offender Record Information) report, and attend school security trainings once or twice per year. The following are the common tasks to be performed by all Fellows:

  • Assistance in the development of lesson plans, as requested by the teacher (focusing on Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Personal Development and Math)
  • Preparation of a Unit Map, which explains the subjects to be covered per quarter, and making sure it is always available outside the classroom for students/staff to follow, in addition to the Class Content and Language Objectives board inside the classroom.
  • Welcoming students with enthusiasm at the door before class, particularly if a teacher is not available and if students are running late.
  • Establishing routines, such as distributing and collecting assignments ("Do Now", "Exit Tickets", Quizzes, Labs, etc.), and assisting teachers with classroom management (making sure students are ready and paying attention at all times respecting the Class Rules/ Core Values posted on the wall).
  • Helping keep the classroom organized and clean and encouraging students to do the same.
  • Conducting student surveys/evaluations
  • Serving as co-substitute teacher in the event a teacher is not present
  • Serving as chaperones for field trips (stipends may be provided by the school)
  • Assisting students with laboratories and other assignments (for example, taking computers apart and explaining how it works).
  • Tutoring students after school in math, computers, engineering and business courses
  • Making students aware of and helping them prepare for, opportunities outside of school, such as math, computer science, business and engineering competitions, certifications and programs.

Fellows will sign a document explaining all the rules and regulations of the school and our program. Attendance is fundamental for our fellowship program and all Fellows must be on time, in uniform and ready to assist teachers and students during their respective fellowship duty days.
