HELP DRIVE THE DRIVERS! Red Cross Transportation Specialists Volunteer Team Lead

The Red Cross is responsible for about half of the country’s blood supply. But how do we get it from collection to where and when it’s needed most? This is where you and your team come in.
As the Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) Region Transportation Specialist Team Lead, this volunteer role supervises and supports the team of blood transport volunteers who deliver blood and related products from neighborhood blood drives to our Philadelphia-based laboratory (7 th & Spring Garden Streets) and/or from the lab to community hospitals. Work from home or one of our offices while gaining valuable leadership experience.
Cooperating with your Volunteer Manager, specific responsibilities include:
- Work with the Onboarding Lead on onboarding and training new Transportation volunteers, including providing facility tours and introductions to department and related personnel.
- Supporting day-to-day work of volunteers (i.e. scheduling shifts, handing out keys, answering calls from volunteers, etc.)
- Ensuring volunteer drivers are signing up for shifts in Volunteer Connection, our volunteer management system.
- Reviewing the schedule and ensuring that data is captured in manifests, logs and online using Volunteer Connection.
- Communicating and sharing feedback between Red Cross personnel and hospital customers.
- Advising regional distribution team of process improvements and suggestions needed to strengthen transportation program.
- Meeting Red Cross fleet policies and standards
- Occasionally taking on routes not filled and/or "stat" deliveries, using Red Cross vehicle or your own (reimbursement available) - literally delivering the gift of life!
- Providing strong customer service and leadership skills.
- Other duties as discussed.
Qualifications:
- Requires 3+ years clean driving record, valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance along with state registration (when using own vehicle) and ability to lift up to 45 pounds.
- 10+ hours availability per week; preferred minimum one-year commitment.
- Strong leadership, logistics organizational abilities
- Good oral and written communication skills, including friendly customer service orientation and ability to relate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and education levels.
- Commitment to the mission of the Red Cross, including values, fundamental principles, etc.
- Familiarity with geographic area and driving routes and ability to read maps.
- Successful completion of American Red Cross Defensive Driving course and assigned training.
