The Alliance for Community Empowerment Mentoring Program connects underserved transitional age youth with caring adult mentors from the community to help the youth reach their academic and personal potential. The time commitment for mentors is about one hour per week. The year-long program will begin with 3 months of group mentoring prior to the start of one-on-one matching. Group sessions are held via Zoom with the opportunity to form a virtual one-on-one match following the completion of the 3-month group commitment.
Are you wondering if you have what it takes to support high-barrier transitional-age youth in reaching their potential? The ideal mentor is...
-PASSIONATE: Great mentors model enthusiasm, respect, and a genuine interest in the mentee as a person.
-TEAM-PLAYERS: Our mentors do not work alone! Can you collaborate and communicate effectively with your mentee's care manager, academic counselor, and other supportive adults in your mentee's life?
-PATIENT: Most of our program's mentees have backgrounds of trauma that make it challenging for them to form trusting relationships. That's why we start with 3 months of group mentoring before assigning one-on-one matches. Are you willing/able to put in the time it takes to build that trust?
