The Mazie Mentoring Program helps aspiring Framingham, Marlborough and Waltham high school students set and achieve goals, graduate from high school, prepare to apply to college or other post-secondary training, and experience success.

To fulfill the legacy of John Andrew Mazie, we recruit and train adult volunteers to Mentor and act as role models for high school students at-risk of not achieving their potential in school and beyond. The mentors provide their mentee with the support they need to take control of their lives, set and achieve goals, prepare to apply to college or other post-secondary training, and achieve success.

The foundation's Mazie Mentoring Program has been in operation for students at Framingham (MA) High School since 1998. A second program was started in 2010 for students at Waltham (MA) High School. Our most recent program was started in September 2019 in Marlborough (MA).

To qualify as a Mentor, you must:
-Be a high school graduate, at least 21 years of age.
-If employed, be in good standing at your place of employment.
-Submit background checks.
-Commit to spend an average of 8 hours per month in face-to-face activities with your mentee, for a minimum of 1 year. Mentors are encouraged to stay in a relationship with their mentee for the 2 1/2 to 3 years that the mentee is in the program. Most do.
-Commit to making a positive impact on a young teen's life.

As a Mentor, your responsibilities to your mentee will include:
-Supporting them in completing the Goal Achievement Program.
-Guiding their personal development.
-Developing their interests.
-Exposing them to culture.
-Providing support for their academic pursuits.
-Assisting them in the college preparation process.
-Introducing them to the world of careers and jobs.
