ACASI volunteer mentors address the goal of healing the wounds of children who are survivors of an Intimate Partner Homicide (IPH). They are a critical part of the child/youth victim's emotional healing, as they adapt to a new home environments, new caregivers, new schools, and new routines. This healing process helps young victims/survivors create a sense of hope and develop tools that build resiliency.
ACASI Volunteer Mentors work directly with child/youth parental intimate partner homicide survivors to provide emotional support and individual advocacy. They provide on-going support, meeting with the child/youth one-on-one twice a month and checking in with them weekly. Mentors make a nine month commitment to the child/youth survivors with whom they are matched, providing the opportunity to make life long impacts.
Mentors needed in Pima, Maricopa and Navajo Counties.


ACASI Mentors are:
Diverse in every way - race, ethnicity, culture, professional focus, languages spoken, religion, education, and life experiences
Resourceful - great at solving problems and know where to go to get support for just about everything.
Guides - Our mentors know they are guides, helping mentees to weigh decisions and make the choices that will best benefit them and who they are.
Prioritize well-being - Our mentors prioritize the well-being of others as well as themselves. They always keep in mind care, safety, health, and boundaries. Confidentiality and trust are critical for this.
Commitment:
1 Year: Each mentor commits to 9 month school year mentoring relationship (at minimum) of weekly communication, including bi-weekly in-person meetings for an average of 10 hours/month.
Communication w/ ACASI: Ongoing support is important to us.
Growth: Ongoing development and training opportunities . We highly recommend 2-3 "ongoing" development opportunities each year.
