Kinship of Tomahawk is a youth mentoring program serving the Tomahawk School District. Children, ages 5-17, who for a variety of reasons need a good, positive role model, are matched with individuals, couples, or families who have similar interests. The expectation is that the mentor will spend a minimum of an hour a week or a couple hours every other week with the child, providing healthy role modeling and companionship. In addition, all children enrolled in the Kinship Program are able to attend the afterschool KinsKlub Program which provides additional contact with positive adult volunteers, offers healthy snacks, educational programming, homework assistance and participation in organized activities.
Mentors can be individuals, couples, or families. All adults must pass background and reference checks as well as a home interview. Mentors must be interested and willing to be a friend/positive role model to a child. Mentors agree to meet with their kinschild 3-4 times a month for a minimum of an hour a visit.
