Since 1998, the AJFS Judith & Jack Rosenberg Mentoring 4 Kids program has helped dozens of families who have experienced loss of a loved one. M4K works to achieve a healthy future for children ages 6 -14 who are being raised in single-parent families. This free, non-sectarian program, pairs children with same gender adult volunteer mentors who provide unconditional friendship and support. The mentor and your child will participate in mutual enjoyable activities a few hours a month as they build a lifelong friendship.
Before any match is made, both the potential volunteer and the child and his/her family are thoroughly screened. Following the match, training and ongoing support are provided.
As a mentor, you bring a desire to make a positive difference in a child's life, a wish to share something of yourself, and to provide support and guidance.
You also bring your personal history and a range of personal experiences that makes you who you are. Some mentors have extensive experience with children, having successfully raised one or more of their own. Others bring a genuine desire to be with a child, but no more experience than having been one themselves!
