Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County offers one to one mentoring services to youth living in single parent, foster or group homes or in kinship care in our Community Programs. Site based programs are offered at pre-schools, elementary, middle and high schools for academic enrichment, socialization, organization skill, career focus, and other life skills depending on the age of participants.
Community based volunteers are over the age of 21 and must pass a background screening which includes Federal, State, local, DMV and Child Abuse Index, as well as an individual interview. Once accepted mentors attend a pre-match interview and receive ongoing supervision and training throughout the length of the match. Mentors spend one to one time with their mentees in the community doing enrichment activities based on a case plan that is individualized based on the needs of the child. Each volunteer makes a minimum of a one year commitment. Site/School Based Volunteers must be at least 14 years of age and work with pre-school, elementary or middle school youth once per week over the course of a year.
