Now, more than ever, youth in foster care need someone in their corner. They are often separated from their siblings or other family members, and, in the midst of merriment may feel isolated and alone. By providing a trained advocate, we are able to remind the youth that they are not alone and ensure that their needs are not overlooked.
Help us provide a trained advocate for every child who needs one - click here to sign up for a volunteer information session: https://www.speakupnow.org/volunteer-2/information-sessions/
We have hundreds of dedicated CASAs encompassing all age groups and backgrounds. They work full-time, part-time, are retired, and are students. CASAs must be 21+ to volunteer. All CASAs make a minimum commitment of at least 18 months; their average service is 10-15 hours per month. CASAs must have at least 2 years driving experience, have a valid driver license (with no more than 2 points on their current record), and be willing to drive to a variety of locations throughout the county (either San Diego or Riverside County based on volunteer's selection). Every volunteer must clear a criminal background check. Volunteers should be persistent and patient. They should also be objective and receptive to backgrounds, experiences, and individual lifestyles that are different from their own.
No experience is necessary! We provide all the training you'll need, as well as a dedicated staff supervisor to partner with you on the case. Our training, Advocate University is 35 hours of online and classroom learning and includes a courtroom observation.
