Kids and Mentors outdoors (KAMO) is a Wisconsin non-profit organization that exists to get kids outdoors. Background checked mentors plan skills activities that they enjoy and wish to pass on to the next generation. These adventures include hiking, biking, hunting, birding, fishing, skiing, snow shoeing, orienteering, canoeing, kayaking, boating, camping, photography, and more. Mentors try to find children between ages 9-16 from families where the opportunity to get outdoors is not readily available, but work with kids from all socio-economic backgrounds. All this programming is free to families. KAMO chapters throughout Wisconsin cooperatively buy into a liability insurance plan. Funding is provided through the community.
Mentors simply have to be willing to share their joy of the outdoors with others. They do not need to be outdoor experts. On some outings, mentors learn along with the kids.Must have background check.
