ORGANIZATION: ACTS ''..a candle to shine''

ACTS Mentoring Program is a mentoring program for girls ages 8-18. ACTS mentoring program seeks to encourage, educate and empower young ladies with tools that broaden their cultural and educational experiences beyond public school opportunities. We are Christian faith based and encourage mentees to see life through the lens of this faith. Our young ladies learn the value of community service, making healthy life choices and leadership in this activity filled program.

Mentors must:
Be at least 18 years old
Be interested in working with young people
Serve as a positive role model and friend
Be willing to adhere to all program policies and procedures
Be willing to complete the application and screening process
Make a one-year commitment
Be dependable and consistent in meeting the time commitments
Be willing to communicate regularly with program staff and take constructive feedback regarding mentoring activities
Attend an initial two-hour training session and additional two-hour training sessions during each year of participation in the program
Help set goals and work toward accomplishing them
Attend mentor/mentee group events, meetings and program recognition events
Have a clean criminal history
Not use illicit (or recreational) drugs
Not use alcohol or controlled substances in an inappropriate manner
Not be currently in treatment for substance abuse and must have a non-addictive period of at least five years
Not be currently in treatment for a mental disorder or hospitalized for such in the past three years
If a driver, must have access to a safe automobile, auto insurance, and a good driving record
