IOFF Web Developer Volunteer Description:

Are you a Web Developer with 5+ year’s experience, passionate and knowledgeable about current ocean issues? If so, are you a fan of independent film? If so, the International Ocean Film Festival is looking for a volunteer Web Developer who is interested in creating a user-friendly environment by writing code and working to evolve our existing web site.

Your experience should assist us in expanding upon our website that combines usability with visual design. Our goal is to ensure a great user experience by providing a functional and attractive digital environment for the IOFF.

We are a passionate group of highly skilled volunteers with big ambitions as we begin to celebrate our 20th Anniversary next April 13-16, 2023. We’re seeking an experienced Squarespace developer to help us enhance our website, add context and create an exceptional online personality. This position plays a crucial role in our ability to continue growing and sharing our quality, independent films, and education programs with an ever-expanding, eager and global audience.

Responsibilities

  • Expand, maintain, and optimize our website using Squarespace platform
  • Develop page types, taxonomy language, menu systems, and other Squarespace CMS data structures based on wireframes and project requirements
  • Responsible for the development and design of web applications and components using HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MySQL
  • Be a Squarespace website solution expert: you'll be guiding our platform architecture, developing plugins, and establishing best practices
  • Configuring goals, triggers, tracking snippets, etc. using Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, as well as A/B tools like Google Optimize, etc.
  • Conferring with teams to resolve issues/bugs, prioritize needs, and identify and implement solutions
  • Design, code, test, and implement website, microsite, and applications, for either internal or external uses
  • Support and maintain existing web applications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Web Development, or relevant field
  • Self-starting professional who is curious about new digital technologies, communicates well, and aspires to combine usability with visual design.
  • 5+ years of experience building websites as a front-end developer in a fast-paced environment using front-end technologies, including Squarespace, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (vanilla and jQuery)
  • Proficient in building and maintaining websites built in WordPress (including theme and plugin development)
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with proven ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise way
  • Attention to detail with the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and optimizing responsive websites
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Proactive and resourceful self-starter attitude; highly reliable/dependable
  • Candidates must reside in the Bay Area for occasional in person meetings

Expectations

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 8 - 10 hours a week, which can take place on the evenings and/or weekend. Team members are requested to be highly responsive in a timely manner. Our offices are in The Presidio in San Francisco, and following an initial in-person meeting, the work can be completed remotely.

The mission of the International Ocean Film Festival is to be the premier global platform for ocean literacy and education through independent film.

Description

The International Ocean Film Festival (IOFF), is the first and largest film festival focused on the ocean in the world.

As a year-round ocean conservation organization the IOFF produces a multipole day in person film and lecture event that promotes awareness around the health of our oceans, and call to actions to protect it. Film programs include award winning independent films of all genres, on stage discussions with filmmakers and content experts, creating a unique public forum on the environmental, social, and cultural importance of the ocean's ecosystems, habitats and its resources. The IOFF has five main education initiatives to fulfill its mission:

  • International Student Film Competition
  • International Traveling Program
  • Annual Ocean Film Festival

IOFF will be celebrating it's 21st Anniversary on April 13-14, 2024 at Cowell Theater at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture in San Francisco, CA. With an expected attendance of 3,000 people, the IOFF serves as a beacon of hope and conversation for ocean lovers of all ages.
