If so, the International Ocean Film Festival is looking for a volunteer Web Developer who is interested in creating a user-friendly environment by writing code and working to evolve our existing web site.

Your experience should assist us in expanding upon our website that combines usability with visual design. Our goal is to ensure a great user experience by providing a functional and attractive digital environment for the IOFF.

As a nonprofit with a very limited budget, we are staffed principally by highly skilled volunteers with big ambitions, which is why we’re seeking an experienced Squarespace developer to help us with website development. This plays a crucial role in our ability to continue growing and sharing our quality, independent films, and education programs with an ever-expanding, eager and global audience.

  • Expand, maintain, and optimize our website using Squarespace platform
  • Develop page types, taxonomy language, menu systems, and other Squarespace CMS data structures based on wireframes and project requirements
  • Responsible for the development and design of web applications and components using HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, MySQL
  • Be a Squarespace website solution expert: you'll be guiding our platform architecture, developing plugins, and establishing best practices
  • Configuring goals, triggers, tracking snippets, etc. using Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, as well as A/B tools like Google Optimize, etc.
  • Conferring with teams to resolve issues/bugs, prioritize needs, and identify and implement solutions
  • Design, code, test, and implement website, microsite, and applications, for either internal or external uses
  • Support and maintain existing web applications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Web Development, or relevant field
  • Self-starting professional who is curious about new digital technologies, communicates well, and aspires to combine usability with visual design.
  • 5+ years of experience building websites as a front-end developer in a fast-paced environment using front-end technologies, including Squarespace, HTML, CSS, JavaScript (vanilla and jQuery)
  • Proficient in building and maintaining websites built in WordPress (including theme and plugin development)
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with proven ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise way
  • Attention to detail with the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and optimizing responsive websites
  • Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
  • Proactive and resourceful self-starter attitude; highly reliable/dependable

If you have passion and intelligence, and possess a technical knack (even if you’re missing some of the above), we encourage you to apply.

  • Be a part of a passionate Marketing Committee team that creates content to raise awareness to protect the health of our oceans.
  • Channel your passion in a stimulating environment
  • Learn the nuts and bolts of nonprofit operations in an established organization
  • Develop new skills and gain valuable experience that can enhance your professional trajectory
  • Have fun while you make a difference
  • All access VIP Pass to attend the film festival and it’s events that are open to the volunteer corp.

You will work remotely and on your own schedule, though we require a minimum commitment of 8 - 10 hours a week, which can take place on the evenings and/or weekend. Team members are requested to be highly responsive in a timely manner. Our offices are in The Presidio in San Francisco, and following an initial in-person meeting, the work can be completed remotely.
