ORGANIZATION: Center for Advocacy for the Rights and Interests of Elders (CARIE)

The Pennsylvania Senior Medicare Patrol (PA-SMP) at CARIE is dedicated to preventing fraud and abuse in Medicare. We are currently looking for retired Medicare beneficiaries to teach their peers how to recognize Medicare fraud, how to protect themselves, and how to report it. Volunteers present fraud prevention information to senior groups, clubs, and community organizations, and provide information at health fairs and senior expos*.

A six-month commitment is requested, but volunteers set their own schedule-there are no minimum or maximum number of hours required.

The PA-SMP at CARIE provides all training and support.

Please contact Rebecca Nurick at 1-800-356-3606 or Nurick@carie.org for more information.

*As of March 2020, CARIE, its staff, and volunteers have been conducting all work virtually and will continue to do so indefinitely. Active SMP volunteers will continue to educate beneficiaries via remote conferencing formats per CARIE's policies. SMP staff will appropriately train and update all volunteers regarding COVID-19 fraud, scams, and trends as a means to better inform and protect elders in Pennsylvania's communities.
