Senior hunger and isolation are growing problems, and they have been exacerbated by COVID-19. Our program is serving 74% more clients than we were at the start of the pandemic! Volunteering to deliver meals makes such a difference to our older adult neighbors. It helps combat social isolation, addresses safety hazards, and provides holistic care for seniors.
The routine:
The pick-up time is 11:00 a.m. at Waite Park Wesleyan Church at 1510-33rd Avenue NE, Minneapolis 55418. Our delivery area includes Northeast Minneapolis, Southeast Minneapolis, and St. Anthony Village. Each route includes approximately 10 to 15 stops and takes up to an hour. We can be flexible to accommodate your schedule.
Drivers must:
- Be able to carry meal containers and climb stairs
- Have a Minnesota driver's license
- Have a car in good condition and car insurance
Our enthusiastic volunteers help older adults and individuals with disabilities remain in their own homes. Even the short contact of delivering a meal creates a real, life enriching connection. A friendly greeting once a day can be a lifesaver for some people.
NOTE: All applicants are required to pass a background check. Contact Jessie for more information: Phone: (612)277-2529 Jessie@eastsidemeals.org
