School on Wheels

When schools closed, our students lost the single greatest source of stability in their lives. With its structure and normalcy (as well as food and caring adults), school was a respite from the trauma of homelessness. Join the volunteer tutor team at School on Wheels and make a positive difference in the life of a student living in a shelter, motel, vehicle, or group home. Our volunteers meet their students online and we provide all the training!

About School on Wheels

Mission Statement

Since 1993, the mission of School on Wheels has never wavered: to enhance educational opportunities for children who are experiencing homelessness from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in their learning and provide them with the highest level of education possible. Our program serves as a consistent support system for our students during a time of great stress and fear.

Volunteering to tutor a child experiencing homelessness with School on Wheels is only a one-hour-a-week commitment. After completing the application process, you will be matched with a child or youth based on your availability and tutoring skillset. Becoming a volunteer can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
