We are a small non-profit 501(C)3 organization doing big things. Our organization is all volunteer in North Lawndale, Chicago, USA. We are looking for volunteers to join our grants committee to work remotely to help raise funds for our programming and to fund the building of a new neighborhood center to support neighborhood communities and improve the world.

Summer/Fall Programming: Peace Parks from vacant lots honoring black heroes, Social Justice Issues Program (SJI), Conflict Resolution & De-escalation Training, Fashion Show, Summer Art Show for volunteers, art making, gardening, Cleaning the Environment, August Youth Art Fest, September Art Walk on Kedzie, and more!

Tubman Kahlo Resource Center is being planned for our community. It will employ people of all abilities, house a vegan cafe, a florist shop, a re-furbished furniture store, a referrals office, an art gallery, patio, computers & books reception area; and 2nd & 3rd floors with spaces for entrepreneurs to grow their businesses, plus a conference room and art studio. There will be a rooftop garden. We hope to offer after school programing, spoken word and other arts on the stage, community meetings, a social justice issues program, and community peace patrol from the building.

We need volunteers to join our grant committee to help us move forward. If interested, please RSVP to attend orientation on a Saturday of your choosing from noon-1p.m. contact@urbanartretreat.com We are looking for skilled and non-skilled people.

Mission Statement

Chicago URBAN ART RETREAT Center (CUARC) provides rooms for women. CUARC also provides safe space for people who are different from each other to enjoy & learn from each other. CUARC celebrates multiculturalism, diversity, and non-violence. We provide opportunities for people to learn about and practice peace. We encourage our volunteers to learn about social justice issues and the isms to spread this information to others.

Description

In addition to a women's residence on the second floor, we offer an art gallery for under-represented artists, and art studio for non-artists. CUARC offers a variety of programs geared to the under represented and to educate the public about under represented populations. At our own site and at sites of other non-profits, CUARC programs include: art workshops & classes for non-artists, support & education for entrepreneurs, art shows by under represented people (people with mental illnesses, people of color, non-artists, survivors of trauma, immigrants, lesbians, gays, & seniors). Social opps. for people who are different from each other to attend, enjoy each other, and learn from each other are offered monthly. Non-violence and tolerance is encouraged at all activities.
